I’m a Big Kid Now

When I saw the latest sketch over at Papertake Weekly Challenge, I immediately had ideas spinning around in my head. I knew exactly which image I wanted to use and which set of papers. I just had to put it all together. After I did, I realized that Papertake’s last weekly challenge must have still been in the back of my mind since I used stripes and spots on my card.

The image is an Inkadinkado stamp and the papers are all from a K & Company Scrap Kit that I think I bought at Target a while ago. I already have someone in mind to give it to. Now, I just need to figure out what occasion to give it to him for. I have heard that he might be fighting H1N1, so I may put a get well sentiment inside and give it to him sooner rather than later.

Feeling Like Fall

For some reason, Halloween just didn’t feel like Halloween this year. I don’t know if it was because it was a mild day or what. But now, there is a crispness to the air and it feels like fall to me. I think that is what inspired this card. I used the sketch from Mojo Monday. (Don’t you just love their sketches?) I also pulled a touch of inspiration from the My Time to Craft Challenge – So Many Scallops. Here is what I came up with:

mojo-scallops

The papers were scraps that I had left over from a card I made for my son who is at boot camp. The sentiment and the stickers are Creative Memories. I really like how the card turned out. What do you think of it?

Naughty or Nice?

I think the time change is really messing with me this time. I was fine all day Saturday which was a good thing since I didn’t have much down time between T’s soccer game, carving pumpkins and trick or treating. Yesterday, I just was dragging all day. Today isn’t feeling a whole lot better, but I am going to fake it.

I was hoping to work on a card based on the latest sketch over at Sketch Saturday this weekend, but just couldn’t make it happen until this morning. Once I got a bit inspired and had enough energy, this is what I came up with:

naughty-nice

I just love these little See No Evil… Penguins. The papers and the sentiment are all Creative Memories.. I added the little penguin button as he just seemed to go so nicely. So, is my card naughty or nice? You be the judge.

New Month, New Challenge

Around here, November seems to mark the beginning of the holiday season. When I think of the holidays, I think of all of the traditions that are associated with them from the special holiday decorations to the special foods. I want to see layouts (and cards if you are feeling up to that challenge) that celebrate your family’s special traditions. What better way to capture the history and meaning of those traditions and to pass them down to future generations?

Family Traditions

Entries will be accepted all month long. Simply post a link to your layout/card in the comments below. If you don’t have a blog or online gallery, you can simply email a photo of your creation to me using the email link to the right. Another option is that you can join the Scrappy Hours group on Facebook (if you aren’t already a member) and post your layout/card there. I will pull from all of these to post at least a sampling of the entries on November 30th.

Looking forward to learning about your family traditions. I have a couple of traditions that I am thinking about how to best capture on a layout myself and hope to be posting some soon.

After a Short Delay: Support Our Troops Results

Fortunately, the Facebook maintenance didn’t take too long and I was able to access the fabulous layouts that Tamela, Elaine and Tracy posted for the Support Our Troops Challenge.

Tamela was a total superstar posting 7 layouts about her adopted soldier:

Elaine shared a gorgeous layout that she created about her hero:

And, Tracy created a touching two-page spread remembering her ancestor’s military service:

I shared a layout featuring a photo of my son who is in JROTC but talking about the pride that I feel both for him and his brother who is down at Parris Island in Boot Camp:

and some cards that I made for the son at Boot Camp:

Leave the ladies some love since their layouts were amazing. And, be sure to check back tomorrow to see what the challenge is going to be for November.

Support Our Troops Results Delayed

I was hoping to come down this morning and to post the fabulous entries that I received from the ladies on the Scrappy Hours Facebook group, but I am unable to access Facebook at the moment. I knew that I should have grabbed the photos last night. I promise to post their military-inspired layouts as soon as I can. And, I will be posting another challenge tomorrow.

You Rock, Dog

When I got up this morning, I knew that I wanted to make a card for my son who is down at Parris Island for Boot Camp. In his letters to us, he keeps saying how he hopes that he is making us proud. I just wish that we could make him see that we have always been proud of him. Since October is coming to a close, I guess this will be the last card that I make for him as part of the Support Our Troops challenge, but I will be making him more cards over the coming months.

I decided to use the sketch over at Friday Sketchers, since it would work well with the image that I already had in mind.

The Marine Corps is represented by a bulldog so when I saw this stamp, I knew that I had to have it. What do you think?

Green Beer?

Yes, I am Irish, and I love St. Patrick’s Day and perhaps that provided the motivation for this card (even though I know St. Patrick’s Day is months away). Actually, the new challenge at ABC Challenge this week is G is for Green, and the challenge at Cute Card Thursday is Midnight Margaritas – cocktail inspired cards. I don’t know how cute my card is, but for a beer-drinking man, I think it works nicely:

I think I may be sending this one to my dad for St. Patrick’s Day next year.

Let It Rain, Let It Rain, Let It Rain

Around here, that is exactly what has been happening. Rain, rain and more rain. I guess it could be worse. It could all be snow. Of course, then my new card based on the latest sketch from Just Christmas and Birthday Cards would be a perfect fit.

let-it-snow

I stamped the background strips with a beautiful snowflake flourish stamp using silver ink on white paper. Then I stamped the snowman on white and mounted on a silver and white flourish print paper. I punched the 3 snowflakes at the bottom from another sheet of silver paper. Finally, I colored the snowman and his little bunny friend using colored pencils. In person, the snowflakes at the bottom don’t stand out quite so much.

Eager to Get Home

After seeing the latest sketch over at Mojo Monday, I could hardly wait to get home from work to create my card.

new-driver

I recently got the new Creative Memories scalloped circle punch which I thought would be perfect for the circular area on the sketch. I just had to figure out what image I could use. Once I selected that, I knew that I wanted to make a card for a friend of mine who has been trying to get her driver’s license. One of her favorite colors is pink, so I knew I had to use pinks. I found the tag and sentiment in a stack that I received as part of a RAK at the most recent crop I attended. I dug through my stash and found the other papers. I am pretty happy with how it turned out. I hope that my friend likes it as well.
