Simply Spring

I guess that I am still feeling inspired by the latest challenge over at Cupcake Craft Challenges – Keep it Simple. Left to my own designs, I would naturally tend to create more simple cards. Of course, part of the fun of challenges is to push yourself out of your comfort zone. Whatever, I am enjoying keeping things simple for a day or two at least. This simple card was created with two other challenges in mind: A Spoon Full of Sugar – Spring is in the Air and Papertake Weekly Challenge – Check This Out!

Here is the card:

The use of gingham is pretty obvious with this one, but when I asked my son if this card made him think of spring, he said that it didn’t really. For me, this image will always make me think of spring and in particular one spring from a very long time ago. My brother and I were little. I couldn’t have been more than about 5 years old. We decided to give our mom flowers for Mother’s Day. Well, of course, since we were little, we didn’t have money to buy flowers for her. We did what we thought was the next best thing. We took one of our recently emptied Easter baskets and headed around the corner to a hill that was covered with what we called wildflowers. Of course, it was really covered with weeds–buttercups, violets, dandelions, clover flowers and Queen Anne’s Lace (better known as ragweed, which my brother, as it turned out, is highly allergic to). We filled the basket to overflowing with flowers that we picked from the hillside and brought home our present to our mother. She was touched by the thought and that is really what matters, right?
