It’s in the Reindeer Bag

I think that I have mentioned it a couple of times, but I am participating in an Open House event at the Staples in Westminster, MD this Saturday morning. I am going to have some of my cards there, but the main thing that I am going to be selling is small gift bags. I have been having lots of fun making and decorating the bags, but as a result, I haven’t been doing as much with challenges. This morning, I decided to combine the two as I made the gift bag for the door prize that I am bringing Saturday. I got a friend of mine who hand makes jewelry to make a pair of earrings that I am going to wrap up in this:

I used the latest sketch from Inspirational Card Sketches (#94). I loved how the ribbon stripes simulated ribbons on a package. I also drew inspiration from the latest challenge over at My Time to Craft (#118) – Reindeer Greetings. I was thinking about using my little Santa stamp on one of the bags, but when I saw the call for Reindeer Greetings, it was easy enough for me to switch up and use this cute little reindeer.

I believe the earrings are going to be red, so they will even color coordinate with the wrapping.

Fur Baby Christmas

I don’t know about you, but I do know that a lot of people give their fur-babies presents at the holidays. At least I hope so. Next week, I am doing an Open House event for which I made a bunch of small gift bags and will be selling cards. I thought it might be nice to have some dog-themed gift bags:

I made these using the latest sketch from Friday Sketchers (#131) as the inspiration for the layout. Here are some closer up shots:

They are too small for doggie toys, but are the perfect size for putting a couple of doggie treats in.

What do you think? Do you spoil your fur-babies for the holidays?

Which Do You Like the Best?

After my friend got the “Mary Kay” gift bags that I made for her, she was really excited and I think she was telling everyone about them. I know she told a woman who is hoping to organize an event at the Staples where they bring in vendors and allow them to sell their products right in the store. Of course, the hope is that people will come in to check out the vendors and then will wind up buying stuff from the store as well. They are still trying to work out the details, but if they do have the event, it looks like I will have a booth to sell gift bags and cards. I have started making some gift bags for that event just in case.

And in case people want something that isn’t too focused on the holidays:

The bags are small but perfect for wrapping gift card and other small items.

Apparently she also was talking to another friend who does wedding planning and was telling her about the bags. When we had lunch today, she suggested that I make some examples that we can share with this other friend who can then promote the bags to her clients. They really are perfect for jewelry (bride’s maid gifts) or for small table favors. Here is one that I made up this evening:

I am sure that I will be creating several more designs over the coming week or so in preparation for the possible event. In the mean time, I would love to hear from you about what you like (and dislike) about the ones that I have already put together. Also, I would love to hear suggestions of things that you think would work well with these small bags. Let me hear from you!

No Better Friend Than…

In my son’s case, there is no better friend than his Teddy bear.

Ever since I discovered that our local Hobby Lobby carries House Mouse stamps, I have found myself taking full advantage and my older House Mouse stamps have found new life. The current challenge over at House Mouse and Friends is “You Gotta Have Friends.” I have had this stamp for a while (and it is still one of my favorites) and I thought it would work perfectly on this diamond-fold card as well as for a challenge about friends.

I don’t know if I had ever seen a diamond-fold card before yesterday, but as I was cruising the various blogs, one caught my eye. I knew that I had to try making one. It was surprisingly easier than I thought it would be and I am pretty happy with how this one turned out. (Okay, I admit that I practiced with a scrap paper before I tackled making an actual card.) What do you think?

Tropical Wishes

I don’t know exactly why, but when I saw the latest challenge over at Stamp Something – Digi Somethings – I just knew that I wanted to use my digi mermaid stamp from Pollycraft. Maybe it is because I know winter is coming and I would rather be someplace tropical and warm. Anyway, I decided to combine the Stamp Something challenge with the challenge over at Secret Crafter Saturday Challenge – Sparkle and Shine – and to use the latest sketch from Friday Sketchers.

When I put those three challenges together, this is what I come up with:

I used sparkly ribbon that I embellished with a heart-shaped paper clip and a seahorse charm. I used Stickles on everything except the mermaids skin and hair and added some bling bubbles. If that doesn’t sparkle and shine, I don’t know what does.

For a Friend

If any of you follow me, I am sure that you have heard me mention my friend Laura. Well, several months ago, she became a Mary Kay consultant. I will admit that I love having my own Mary Kay person. I hadn’t used their stuff in a while, but I really like it. Plus, if it helps out a friend, all the better.

She is getting ready for her holiday open house season and asked me if I could make some of my little gift bags for her. The only requirements were to use Mary Kay colors – pink and black – and to tie in a wintery or holiday theme if possible. Here is what I came up with:

Does this just seem perfect for Mary Kay? I thought the papers seemed just right and the snowflake gives that seasonal touch.

I have 20 of these sitting in my craft room right now, and I have to admit that if they weren’t for Laura, I would probably find all of that pink just a bit overwhelming.

Now, if the design looks familiar, it is because I modeled this bag after the one that I did earlier this month for the fall colors thank you challenge. The fall colors one is more my color scheme, but I love the versatility of the design.

Still Celebrating Our Veterans

I really felt bad just making one card for our veterans in response to the call from Oh My Crafts, so I spent a little bit of time to make another one.

This time, I used the latest sketch from over at Cupcake Craft Challenges. I used similar papers but a different image. How could I resist this patriotic little bear?

I think that I will be using this sketch again as I see lots of possibilities when I look at the sketch. I think next time, I might try a gatefold card based on the sketch.

Thank a Veteran

I have always understood the meaning behind Veteran’s Day. I had a tape of my brother and I reading all about Armistice Day and Veteran’s Day when we were young. (I wonder whatever happened to that tape?) But, Veteran’s Day has even greater meaning to me now that my son is a Marine. I am so very proud of him and his buddies. Entering the Corps, especially when we are at war, takes a lot of courage. In April, he will be headed to Afghanistan so I will be asking for lots of prayers for him then, but in the meantime, I think that we all need to include all of the soldiers serving far from home in our prayers every day.

The other day, Oh My Crafts posted an invitation on their blog. They asked their readers to make cards that they will then send to veterans to thank them for their service. I just wish that I had more time so that I could make more cards. However, I was able to find the time to get a card made.

I used the latest from Inspirational Card Sketches as my starting point.

I will be putting this one in the mail today, and I hope all of your will find your own way to thank our veterans.

Sweet Mouse Friends

When I saw the latest over at House Mouse and Friends, I thought that I had an idea. Then I started looking through my drawer of stamps and came across a stamp that I hadn’t used in a while. The challenge over at House Mouse this time is “You Gotta Have Friends.”

If you can’t share a little birthday cake with your friends, what is the point in having the cake? Okay, cake is good even by yourself. Regardless, I thought that these two little darlings appeared to be friends.

I used the latest sketch from The Sweetest Thing. The colors are a bit richer in person, but I think that you still get the idea.

Countdown to Christmas

Where has this year gone? I heard the other day that Christmas is less than 50 days away. Seems like good motivation for making some Christmas cards.

All of the papers that I used for this card are from A Country Christmas pack from the Paper Studio and the image is my newest House Mouse stamp. I used the sketch from Stamp Something as my starting point and them began embellishing. I love how this card came out actually. What do you think?
